LOS
ANGELES, California, USA -- May 10, 2000 Microsoft will showcase its Xbox audio technology
to select journalists at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) from May 11- 13, 2000. The
MixJuice Realtime Composition Engine from inis has been selected to demonstrate the
unparalleled audio possibilities on Microsoft's Xbox, the "future-generation"
video game console that is expected to ship fall 2001. The demo will show a small piece of
the MixJuice Realtime Music Application in a custom interface specifically designed for
Xbox.
"MixJuice is an awesome example of the kinds of things that can be done with the
audio technologies in Xbox," said Chanel Summers, audio manager for the Xbox Advanced
Technology Group at Microsoft. "We are excited to see that the DirectX audio
capabilities, which are at the foundation of Xbox, enable innovative audio technologies
like those in MixJuice."
Realtime Composition
MixJuice employs the MixJuice Realtime Composition Engine (RCE) which uses DirectMusic to
allow for real-time modulation of music parameters for song creation. The concepts behind
MixJuice are defined by the following:
- Professional quality automatic song generation that requires no
previous skills or knowledge about music composition.
- Real-time changes to the music during playback for quick and easy editing.
- A one-box solution that produces professional quality sound and music.
The real-time nature of the MixJuice RCE provides unparalleled power to perform music
composition in ways that were not possible in the past. Users who are not familiar with a
sequencer package will be able to create professional quality music with MixJuice thanks
to the RCE.
"MixJuice allows all users who have musical sense to generate professional quality
music just with their PCs," said Keiichi Yano, vice president and director of
development at inis, co. ltd. "We are pleased that Microsoft views our technology as
state-of-the-art and has partnered with us to help demonstrate the audio power of
Xbox."
MixJuice Features
MixJuice provides users the ability to generate music data and then flexibly control it in
real-time while maintaining the highest level of musicality. This allows for real-time
mixing and matching of generated music while keeping coherence and allowing for
interaction with all musical parameters including the groove, harmony, and melody. . The
RCE allows for music composition via user interfaces and experiences that previously were
not even imaginable and opens up new possibilities to musicians and non-musicians alike in
home, studio, and live performance settings.
Release Date:
MixJuice is scheduled for release in Japan in fall 2000.
