Here are 7 fun LEGO sets we found in the Prime Day sales
Indoor kids, your time isn’t over yet. Just because it’s “summer” and lockdown is nearly “over” there’s nothing stopping you from continuing to hole up every weekend with a pseudo-intellectual board game, a homemade cocktail or, yes, a LEGO Imperial TIE Fighter. We’ve seen a few genuinely decent deals on LEGO sets in Amazon’s Prime Day sale – enough in fact that we’ve compiled this rundown.
For discounts on smartphones, laptops, TVs, headphones and more, head to the WIRED Gear team’s full edit of the best Prime Day deals that are actually deals. We’ve also picked out the 11 best Prime Day smartphone deals.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away LEGO joined forces with the Star Wars franchise and found it so lucrative it has never looked back. This mighty X-Wing comes with an opening minifigure-sized cockpit, space for R2-D2 and wings that can be switched to attack position at the touch of a button. You get Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and (inexplicably) General Dodonna, too. And at just £30, this is the best deal yet on this set. Into the Dark Side? Go for the Imperial TIE Fighter (down to £26).
Embrace your inner Vin Diesel at a knock-down price with Dom’s iconic Dodge Charger from the Fast & Furious series. Unlike the films, this will actually require you to put your brain in gear, but thankfully nothing too high – it’s rated for LEGO builders 10+, and you get a sweet ride full of tricked-out street racer details.
So the Friends reunion was deeply, deeply disturbing – but that’s OK! The classic LEGO Central Perk set is full of fun, nostalgic details and will let you remember Rachel, Ross, Joey, Monica, Phoebe and Chandler just as they were: smiling, funny, not slurring – and at least Gunther seems to be OK. Like your TV pals, this set is on the cusp of retirement, so this is a good opportunity to snap it up for the price of about 11 Venti Caramel Macchiatos, while putting the decent savings toward the apartment set.
This 60cm-long ship has everything needed for endless ocean exploration… in the bath. Shark cage? Check, and a mini Jaws to go with it. Working crane? Yep. Research sub? Of course. Helicopter? You bet. There’s even a pirate shipwreck with hidden treasure. Add in eight explorer minifigures and the scene is set for aquatic action escapades. This is the lowest price ever on Amazon for this set, and, yes, the ship does indeed float!
This crane is a big unit – 78cm long when fully extended, to be precise. And it works just like the real thing, too, with its telescopic arm, outriggers to secure the crane in place and hydraulic mechanism. This Technic set has been given universally good reviews, and at this price is the lowest you will find right now, as well as being the cheapest ever sold on Amazon.
VIDYO is LEGO’s latest innovation/pocket-money-hoover: blind boxes containing a weird character and a set of BeatBit tiles that trigger AR special effects when viewed with an app. Now it’s gone supersized with its biggest playset yet, an 80s-style boombox that turns into a gig venue. Like a tiny Spinal Tap demanding a replica of Stonehenge, your minifig bandmates can rock out on stage to an array of digital backdrops and props, while you film the action for a music video – or join in yourself. Dignity, it was nice knowing you…
